[00:00:00] cathy: Today on Rant and Resolve. I have Jennifer with Salon NV, Denton with us.
[00:00:05] cathy: I'm super excited to have her. One of the things that I love about Salon NV is that they are. Cutting edge, I know all about the salon business, but I don't know all about the salon stuff.
[00:00:20] cathy: So I've got Crystal, your co-host with us today to talk about the cool stuff, right? ? Yes. So welcome Jennifer. We're super excited to have you. I know that you have had a lot going on. When I first started you'd been in business for eight years, then we celebrated your 10 year, and now you've moved to a new salon. And what is this your 13 year?
[00:00:43] Jennifer: That was in our, that was in our new location though. I've had a Salon NV since 2006 in Denton. . Wow. Yes. So we are old . We're old to the neighborhood. , . We've been around, we've been around the block a few times. , literally. Yeah.
[00:00:59] cathy: And one of the things I love with working with companies like you guys is that, from the business perspective is that, Jennifer, you really do things in your own way, but it's a streamlined way, and it's a unique way, and it works.
[00:01:12] cathy: I know a lot of salons, and what I love about what you guys are doing is you're reaching out to your current customers . You're right there involved in the community.
[00:01:21] cathy: The new place is freaking awesome. Thank you. I thank you. I, I love the vinyl. So what's the vinyl records? Is that Tuesday?
[00:01:30] Jennifer: Yes. So we do vinyl Wednesdays and vinyl Wednesday. Yep. So it's just, we just run vinyl all day.
[00:01:35] Jennifer: It's just a different vibe. We, a lot of times we try to run the vinyl and we do little popup, Sales on that day. Like we might, throw out on social media like, Hey, happy hour, or hey vinyl, and, 20% off if you called today to book or it's just, so what's your, is this our day to play with just, just play around and make it fun and different and bring something new to the table.
[00:01:58] cathy: So what's the record collection?
[00:02:00] Jennifer: Oh gosh, we've got a little bit of everything. We have everything from Frank Sinatra to. Oh, gosh. Adele, we have Mariah, Carrie, Whitney, Houston. We have some country. We lady Gaga. We just have everything. We just, we've caught in everybody's vibes that a way we make everybody happy all day.
[00:02:20] Jennifer: I think I just want to come just to listen to the music and watch a record turn. I know Wednesday is definitely a vibe in the salon for sure.
[00:02:28] Crystal: That is so much fun. So it's a vinyl Wednesday and now you mentioned happy hour. Explain that a little bit to me cuz I have never heard of a salon doing like a vinyl Wednesday, a happy hour.
[00:02:40] Jennifer: We just were trying to bring something to the table that's different and Denton is full of salons, so we're just trying to be a little bit more in your face and out there and different and funky and creative and unique. So when we do that on Wednesdays, nothing's ever.
[00:02:54] Jennifer: It's not really set exactly. We just come up with an idea on Wednesday of what we do. What are we doing today? So like last week it was 25% off of any hair service that you called and booked. And then sometimes we will do, like I said, it'll be like happy hour if anything after four o'clock today is on happy hour, so it's half off, or I mean it, we just pick a new theme for every Wednesday to roll with.
[00:03:14] Jennifer: with the vinyl Wednesday, that just adds a little flare to the salon and for clients. And again, it's just something different and fun. And like I said, it just definitely adds,, it's a, it's definitely a vibe .
[00:03:25] Crystal: That is so fun though. I love that because I would, cuz products, itself, can be expensive, but to know that I can go.
[00:03:33] Crystal: Catch my vibe at Salon NV. Come out looking beautiful. My best self, but also exactly, yes.
[00:03:39] Jennifer: Hello gorgeous .
[00:03:40] Crystal: I know. And then you just like you, you have that experience cuz I can say that, when I'm getting my hair colored and doing the whole nine yards, It's always stressful cause you always wanna make sure that it comes out the way you think that it should look in your pictures and images.
[00:03:55] cathy: Exactly. Yeah. And I'm the best person to jump in to say this because I am one of those people that say, and those of you can see my picture, I will go to my stylist and say, can you make me look like Jennifer Aniston
[00:04:09] cathy: and they're like, let me snap my fingers and pull a genie out of a bottle. .
[00:04:15] Jennifer: You're like, okay, get on it. . Lemme see what you can do.
[00:04:17] Crystal: My stylist. I was talking to her the last time I went in. She was, bless her heart, she was just getting a little frustrated because the young lady that was there before me came in with three pictures and they were all three different haircut styles.
[00:04:32] Crystal: but she was like, can you do this part of my head looking like this and this , she was pulling out like the different elements of this, of three different haircuts and wanted it all to be combined into one hairstyle. I was getting stressed out for my stylist ,
[00:04:47] cathy: What about color? I've done that thing where my hair would be like dark with really frost.
[00:04:52] cathy: And then the summer would come and I'd be like, super blonde. And they would be like, we don't, we, it's gonna take stages to get it back to that super white look because now you've got some browns and reds in there from the sun. We always think when we get our hair cut or colored or highlighted that it's gonna turn into that perfect color that we want.
[00:05:12] cathy: When I'm looking at reviews from consumers and stuff, it's , oh, they didn't do this or they didn't do that. It's like I, every time I read those, I'm like, , but it's not always gonna be the same exact color until you get with that one stylist to allow them to treat that hair.
[00:05:29] cathy: And even I know that, and I'm not a hair stylist .
[00:05:33] Jennifer: It's funny, people come in all the time like, I want this. Number one, there's filters. There's all kinds of edits that everybody does. We can obviously, put stuff on the up on our page that we can edit the color and make it look totally different.
[00:05:44] Jennifer: We can get, we can make any picture, look, any color you really want, . But the realistic goal is to keep the hair healthy and the porosity. At the right porosity to where it's not breaking down the hair. And, I always ask people, do you want the color that you want? Or do you want to have hair at the end of this?
[00:06:01] Jennifer: Because let's really nail that down first, because in our salon, our number one goal is to always keep the, the hair in the healthiest shape and the best shape. Might take a few sessions, over-promising something that you know, that, that can't really be.
[00:06:15] Jennifer: That day is something important to have that conversation about with clients and, guests that come in because, it may be something you can get to, but it might not be something we could do exactly today. And again, our number one goal always is to keep the hair healthy .
[00:06:29] cathy: I'm a Gen X kid, so the bleach I was putting in my hair in the summer just to get it like super cool. That was not good, huh?
[00:06:36] Jennifer: No, it's not that it's not good, it's just, going back over, I'm always one that like, in six months, are we gonna wanna be this blonde again?
[00:06:43] Jennifer: Let's really think about that then. Because, doing this dark color now in six months, you wanna go back blonde. That's where the crossover of getting back to that blonde color, it's not gonna get back there. For a while, plus it's gonna be now damaged because you're gonna be going breaking down through layers of color that has been deposited into the hairing.
[00:07:04] cathy: I used actual bleach, like the bleach, the cleaning bleach.
[00:07:10] Jennifer: Really? Really? Yeah. No, I would say in a
[00:07:14] cathy: water bottle in the nineties and we would spray our air.
[00:07:17] Jennifer: I've literally never heard anybody actually say that they've done that.
[00:07:20] Jennifer: That's so interesting. It was the nineties thing.
[00:07:22] cathy: I don't know what it was like. I shaved right side of my hair
[00:07:24] Jennifer: like the sun in bleach.
[00:07:26] cathy: Bottles of bleach. Sure. .
[00:07:29] Jennifer: I've never heard anybody actually tell me that they've done that. Oh my gosh. Happy. Did it burn your head? Leave it.
[00:07:34] cathy: Leave it to me. Leave it to me. Yeah. Did it burn?
[00:07:38] cathy: Yeah it burned my head. There's a price to beauty.
[00:07:40] Jennifer: True that is very true. Wow. I've never heard that. That is so interesting. Yeah. I would definitely not suggest putting, that kind of bleach on your hair. Ever. .
[00:07:48] cathy: Or, we go into these stores and we buy these remedies.
[00:07:51] cathy: I've done it myself. I've. Frost kit. I've tried to put the cap thing in and yes. I'm just like, we're all trying to save money or I see other people like, go and get their hair colored and it's not conditioned.
[00:08:03] cathy: And, I wanna have my hair till I'm 70 or 80 as long as I can. I know a lot of people do,
[00:08:08] Jennifer: Yeah. And you also have to think, yes. Salon care products, in the salon that are. That are, that's why like in our salon, we're always trying to run some sort of sell with products. So maybe, your favorite one isn't on sale this month, but next month we always try to run different cells so everybody has a chance to get their salon care products that they love to take home and actually continue to care for their hair at home, because professional products that are sold in the salon are made for what they're made for,
[00:08:38] Jennifer: you can get shampoo from, Walmart, target, whatever, but you always have to think, if I'm spending this X amount on my hair in the salon, why wouldn't I go ahead and spend the extra few dollars to really take care of my hair at home too? Continue that service at home is what you're doing.
[00:08:54] Jennifer: It's just literally continuing the service, keeping the color locked in the best that you can, keeping the moisture in the hair as best as you can. We do have treatments that, continue the. The fill and the, the porosity and the color at home. And if you're spending that much, every six to eight, 10 weeks to do the color, go ahead and spend a little bit extra to have the, safe salon products that you know, that are gonna work, that are gonna do the job, that aren't gonna strip the color, that aren't gonna break down the hair, that isn't gonna break down the porosity of the hair.
[00:09:27] Jennifer: There is a little bit to be said. Salon care products for sure. I definitely know that they can be more expensive. Again, that's why we try to run sales constantly so that way we can keep, we can keep it in your hands and keep it in your showers at home and keep your hair the best that it can be.
[00:09:42] Jennifer: Because whenever you go home and use something different than what we're trying to sell you, and say if it's a perm or say if it's a color and then you come back in and it's, it's all gone perm is relaxed all the way outta your hair. It's what did you go home and do that you weren't supposed to do?
[00:09:54] Jennifer: And we can't be there with you. But if I know that you went home and used all our products that were, educating you on, and then you come back to me, In six, eight weeks and your hair looks great. I know the difference is because you've done the work at home too.
[00:10:06] Jennifer: This is a continual thing between the clients and the stylists, to try to keep that so that away, maybe next time you're not spending quite as much because it didn't strip the hair out as much as, a over-the-counter product at Walmart or Target would have done.
[00:10:21] cathy: I've done that. So check this out. So I was an over a counter, salon, basically shampoo conditioner person, right? When I went and got my color the last time they told me about this really cool leaving conditioner, right?
[00:10:36] cathy: Okay. That was really the, about the same price. of what I had spent at the store, but it's actually lasted longer all the way until probably the next time I get my hair colored again. That's awesome. Yeah, I think too, I think we need to be. When salons carry, products like what you guys do, I think it's really good for us consumers to really listen because for years I have gone to the grocery store and now I'm just sold.
[00:11:01] cathy: I'm like, I will always buy the products that my hairdresser recommends because the
[00:11:05] Jennifer: colors stay longer. The technology. Yes. It's the technology that's made into the salon care products, the professional products, the technology. . It's a whole different level. In our salon, we always try to carry stuff that you can't get at Walmart, you can't get at Target.
[00:11:18] Jennifer: We are a little bit of a higher end, boutique style salon that, that goes the extra mile to carry the best of the best for your hair. I want you to be able to extend what I'm doing in the salon, I want you to feel like you've just left the salon every time you wash your hair and every time you style your hair.
[00:11:33] Jennifer: That is the difference of using, salon care products that are, professional lines over. Your Walmart brands or your target Not dissing, but just saying, again, that's why we run the sales constantly, so we can try to, , if you didn't get it this month, you're, your product will be on sale next month.
[00:11:48] Jennifer: We definitely try to run those cells so it gets the products into everybody's hands at an affordable price.
[00:11:54] Crystal: I absolutely love that, and that's why I wanted to highlight on the vinyl Wednesday, and being able to have that happy hour. So you're creating this really fun vibe, the pleasant experience of going to the salon and making it like fun because I,
[00:12:08] Jennifer: its fun.
[00:12:10] Jennifer: You
[00:12:10] Crystal: fun know when you're growing up, you have the mommy and daughter day out or the girls day out. I think oftentimes we've gotten so customized to the social side of things in terms of how do I look, making sure I look good on my Instagram worthy, and all of those things that we put a lot of work into making ourselves look that good.
[00:12:30] Crystal: I think along the ways a lot of people have lost the vibe and the experience of it all, and I love absolutely that you guys are bringing that vibe back and creating a really fun experience so it can feel like you're getting pampered and it doesn't feel like work. And then you add the happy hour into it.
[00:12:46] Crystal: So now you're also educating, being able to put these products in people's hands and making sure they don't go broke, trying to have this experience. I love it.
[00:12:54] Jennifer: And I think too the, like offering something different, offering, like what we're doing is, we have two shampoo lay down beds. So we are doing where you can come in and get maybe a scalp treatment done to where you actually get a massage and then it is done at the bowl.
[00:13:13] Jennifer: So it's a massage, and then you get a scalp. Shampoo because who doesn't love their head being rubbed on down into their neck with , their temples in their neck rubbed, and then you get an amazing shampoo that can be 10, 20, 30 minute, scout, massage. And then you can also add a treatment, whether that be to your hair or maybe year one that has.
[00:13:32] Jennifer: Psoriasis on your scalp, or maybe you have a dry itchy scalp, or maybe you're seeing that your scalp is producing too much oils lately. So there's treatments that we can do with the bowl that you can add on to a scalp massage, and it's a whole different experience than in the chairs that are, they're super comfortable already the actual shampoo beds that we have.
[00:13:53] Jennifer: But then now we have the lay down beds too, and that's just a whole different experience and vibe too, because it's. A little, it's a little add-on to our actual massage room. So the massage therapist can actually shampoo your hair along with giving you a full-blown scalp massage and neck massage. And just again, trying to bring something to the table that's different and new and.
[00:14:14] Jennifer: This world that we live in is so stressful and everything is so crazy on your lunch break right over, get a blowout and or maybe have a meeting that night, come over, get a blowout and a little 10, 20, 30 minute scout, massage and revamp for the rest of your day. Or, just trying to bring a little something different to the table that, raises your vibrations.
[00:14:33] Jennifer: It makes you. It makes you feel like you're lavished and or relaxing or, whatever you're needing for that day can look different for everyone, but just really trying to bring that mind, body health into the salon as well as, looking your best and feeling renewed from the outside.
[00:14:49] Jennifer: Also, trying to bring that in to the inside of the salon for the inside of the body, for the, that whole vibe.
[00:14:55] Crystal: Oh my gosh, it sounds amazing. Like I wanna come like right now, ,
[00:15:00] Jennifer: like I'm ready. Take care of you.
[00:15:01] Crystal: I think honestly, if I'm gonna get a 30 minute scout massage and a lay down shampoo bed, it's worth the drive to Denton for me.
[00:15:09] Crystal: Exactly. I'll be like, is there a bed and breakfast that I can stay at while I'm in town? Exactly.
[00:15:15] Jennifer: Yes. We have those too. . Oh
[00:15:17] Crystal: my gosh, that's amazing. I think there was something else, and I wanna make sure I'm saying this right. Is it the chiro skin and massaging the cryo skin? Uhhuh .
[00:15:25] Jennifer: So we have a new treatment that we are doing.
[00:15:28] Jennifer: It is called cryo skin. I don't know if you've heard about the cryo. Where you can get into the tubes and it makes your body really cold and it has all Yeah, it
[00:15:37] cathy: freezes you benefits of it. Yes. Yeah. You jump in, you freeze and then you get back out.
[00:15:40] Jennifer: Yes. So we are doing that. But that one, the one that we are doing is called cryo skin, and it actually is a permanent slimming and, moving of body fat.
[00:15:52] Jennifer: It literally freezes the body fat cells and breaks 'em down. They go into your lymphatic system and you urinate 'em out so it does slimming, it does removal of unwanted. We call it like, if you can pinch an inch, it can be removed. That fluffy skin that sometimes you just can't get rid of fat that you just can't get rid of.
[00:16:12] Jennifer: That's maybe built up over your, like your love handles or that the knee fat or maybe you have cellulite that you just, you can work as hard as you want, but it's just not moving. It's a newer thing to the Denton area. There's not anyone around our area that does it at all.
[00:16:29] Jennifer: Now there is cryo skin, I'm sure. There's cryo machines, I'm sure, where you can go in and get in the tubes around Denton, but there's not actually a cryo skin. Smoothing treatment. It removes like the Turkey neck, like the loose skin around your face. It does beautiful facials, tightens the skin, lifts the skin, plumps up the skin, takes fine lines and wrinkles out.
[00:16:49] Jennifer: Everything you're needing probably at least five sessions on, but it's you gotta think about it like a workout. You can't just go in once and work out and expect your body to look the way you want it to. So you can buy packages of five and then you can do like maybe a five maintenance or as depending on what you're really needing to work on.
[00:17:07] Jennifer: You could do a package of 10 and then, you want to keep up your maintenance like maybe once every two weeks or once a month just to keep it up. But that is something new that we are doing and we're super excited about bringing into Denton because again, nobody has it in our area.
[00:17:23] Jennifer: . And It is definitely a cool, a cool machine that does super cool things. So
[00:17:29] cathy: now does it look like a tube or is it a lay down?
[00:17:32] Jennifer: No, you would lay down in the massage room, you would lay down, oh, and it is, it's like a little wand that you use and you focus on certain areas, depending on what your stubborn, you can do under the arm, like the flap.
[00:17:45] Jennifer: Flabby skin like the butterfly, how the, everybody always says their skin's flapping. You can do under the arms, you can do on your belly. You can do, like your bra line fat, back fat. You can do love handles.
[00:17:58] cathy: You can do so you're just in the bed, like touching those pieces. And then you're doing it yourself, like putting it over or you have somebody that does that for them.
[00:18:07] Jennifer: We have cryo skin, techs, uhhuh, with their cry. Cause I was like,
[00:18:10] Jennifer: do I just take a touch my body and magic.
[00:18:22] Crystal: I had this visual of Cathy actually trying to do this, and
[00:18:25] Jennifer: I can see this too, I can see this too
[00:18:28] cathy: hilarious, sitting at my desk going, oh, I don't like that fat wand.
[00:18:32] Jennifer: So yes, no, we have, cryo skin techs. Everybody is trained and professionally trained and, passed all the courses and, ready to offer that.
[00:18:40] Jennifer: Actually, we just finished that up. They know what they're doing on the way. Yeah. Yes. And it is, you have to sign waivers and stuff. There's, and it's, it. , it's not going to make someone super overweight lose weight. It's not a weight loss. It is something that it can help slimming, it can help toning, and it does, like I said, the cold press facial.
[00:18:58] Jennifer: So if you're seeing, like a pinch, like I said, if you can pinch an inch, it will move. It, it definitely will move it. You move, it's a skin treatment. You can lose, yes, you can lose anywhere, a fourth to an inch in one treatment. Oh wow. And yep, and it is real and I've seen it in person and we will be doing it on.
[00:19:16] Jennifer: People within the salon so that a way, you know that she's actually their stylist. I have seen her before. We were doing before and after pictures. And the before and after. Pictures are absolutely amazing. And I actually had a Cold press facial done, yesterday and it was a. Fabulous. And like I said, you walk out looking like a model like super tight, like cheekbone showing popping.
[00:19:38] Jennifer: Yeah. Your skin is radiant. So it is something super cool that again, that we're super excited about because there's not a lot of people in our area that is doing it. And so again, bringing something new to the table so we're not just your, you. Another salon in Denton. We're definitely trying to think outside the box and be different and be bold and be, bring, everybody needs a little something.
[00:19:57] Jennifer: And so that's, again, it's not just about the hair, it's about the mind. Body and all of it. We also sent, yeah, and we also sell. Regenrus is a place in Denton up on the square, and they have a whole, wellness line. So we have, we sell all their products, actually, which is amazing. You're getting your turmeric, your, just all your aloe, your.
[00:20:19] Jennifer: They have one that's called rest at night, and it is full of like chamomile and lavender and oh, everything is directly put in the body underneath the tongue and absorbed immediately, and it makes such a difference in the way you feel. It just balances everything out in the body. If you have diabetes or if you have been dealing with maybe cancer.
[00:20:42] Jennifer: It's just good healthy nutrition that goes straight into the body. They also have a, skincare line. So we carry all that as well. So again, it's not just about hair and it's not just about the way that you look from the outside. We are definitely trying to look, we're going in from when you're healthy from the inside, you definitely can see it from the outside.
[00:21:00] Jennifer: So better hair, better skin, so we're trying to do the all around, taking care of our clients again, not just from the inside or not just from the outside looking at the inside too. Bring.
[00:21:12] Crystal: It does start from the inside for sure. Yeah, I'm a big believer in that. I do have one other question on the cryo yes.
[00:21:19] Crystal: Okay. So for me specifically, I would be really interested in like wrinkle reduction in helping that, cuz I have Smile lines, even though I'm
[00:21:29] Jennifer: Those fine lines around your lips, .
[00:21:31] Crystal: Yeah. Yes. Around your lips and around my eyes. And I always say, it's just cuz I've had a happy life.
[00:21:36] Crystal: And that's why they're there. Like
[00:21:38] Jennifer: smile and laugh. Yes. Exactly. I'm with you. . Yes. So that reduces, it reduces all the fines, lines, and wrinkles. It, this is another way of doing like a healthier version, a more natural way version of, maybe instead of going underneath the knife or if you're not really into doing the Botox that doesn't last forever, or your fillers that don't last forever.
[00:21:59] Jennifer: , this definitely is something that you. would do five to 10 sessions of it and you just do your maintenance from there on out and it. You see a difference? It's, you do. It's crazy. Yes, it is crazy what it does. And again, this is just, different ways of looking at it. Again, I'm more, I don't wanna take a lot of poison and put it in my body or, a lot of same junk to put in my body.
[00:22:23] Jennifer: And that stuff can get expensive too. And as, as of course this can be costly depending on what you do. These are permanent lasting effects. These are not like fillers or Botox that you get and in three months you have to do it again, and then your body absorbs it and , you have all the poison in there and.
[00:22:38] Jennifer: Oh, by the way, that might stop working on you because your body just doesn't take it anymore. This is something that definitely does work. It definitely does last, and it definitely does show immediate results. I mean it, it's crazy what the lift of what? Like even whenever I got my facial yesterday, I did one side and just to see one side the way it does look compared to the other side, within. 10 minutes. It's crazy what it does. So awesome. And it's like a massage. While I was laying there getting my facial done, I was, I'm pretty sure snoring on the bed. I was like, oh my God. Got snoring. I'm so sorry. But it's so relaxing and the music's going and it just feels good. So it de poofs, it takes out that those dark circles underneath your eyes.
[00:23:20] Jennifer: It helps. The fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes. This, the lips and then, and that's just the facial part. That's just the facial. That's not even the, the actual slimming or the toning, it does do that. It does like a small little butt lift. It does have awesome benefits of the whole thing.
[00:23:36] Jennifer: So yes, if you have not looked at it, looked into it, you can, we will be posting all of that on our website and I cannot wait. Yeah, definitely look into it. Yeah.
[00:23:46] Crystal: My next question is, you mentioned the five sessions, is what your recommendation is and then maintenance. Within those five sessions, how often would you have this done?
[00:23:54] Crystal: Is it like monthly or is it like every other week? How
[00:23:56] Jennifer: does that, you would usually do that, depending on what area and what you're doing and how quickly you're wanting to see a change. , it would be any, anywhere between one to two times a week to once a week to once every other week.
[00:24:10] Jennifer: It just depends on what area we're working on, what we're doing, how fast you wanna see the results. It depends on what you're doing. If you're doing the slimming or if you're doing the facial, or if you're doing the toning. They all have a little bit of a different, different.
[00:24:23] Jennifer: Plan of what you need to do. And it, it's all based on what the body, what body top we're working with and, what your daily lifestyle is , you can't be doing the slimming and eating McDonald's every day, so it, again, it really looks at the health and wellness of the body and the, each patient that comes in or each client that comes in.
[00:24:40] Jennifer: We look, we really dig deep into all that. It's not just and I'm not gonna do it, we're not gonna do it to somebody that we know it's not gonna work on, cuz that's, we're not here for the money. We're here to actually take care of you and to love on you and to make you feel your best inside and out.
[00:24:53] Jennifer: Wow. Yeah. That's awesome.
[00:24:55] cathy: That's that. That's one of the things that I love about Salon NV. I've worked with a lot of salons and it's always come in, get your haircut, leave. You guys really have a passion for, I know salons get busy. I know Saturday and Sundays are crazy.
[00:25:12] cathy: But one of the things that I really love about, Salon NV, is that the core values of what you guys have Yes. Is to let them leave, you actually care about them. You want them to leave and feel good and be their best self. And yes. It's like you're rooting for them. You're rooting for us.

The newer girls that come in that are assisting or that are just coming on board to be a part of our salon team, they're like, oh my gosh, I can't believe like every single one of your clients you've had for as long as you've been doing hair.
[00:26:01] Jennifer: And I'm like, yes. That's how I roll. If you are a part of this, you become family. This is just how we do it here. . Yeah.
[00:26:07] cathy: And I love that. And I think that vibe is there and the core values there. And no matter. If it's madness or Mother's Day or crazy day. I just think the core value that you guys have of not only the community, the family, but the personal, the personal feeling.
[00:26:21] cathy: When I go to your website or when I see the post about Be Your Best Self and things like that, I'm always thinking, wow, I'm more encouraged. Beauty is yes, an outer. It's yeah, we all wanna look good, feel good, but the fact that you guys really focus on core and you just really want them to leave happy, sincerely, it's not yeah.
[00:26:37] cathy: Oh, I did a great hair job. It's oh, how do you feel? Go out to the world and conquer it and come back and I'll see you and. Next month or six months or whatever. I just, I love that vibe that you guys give off. I think it's a continuing vibe. It's almost like a, a healthy cause and with everything that's going on in the world, I think to go have that moment.
[00:26:58] cathy: or like Crystal said, probably go spend the whole day cryo,
[00:27:01] Jennifer: whatever. You can do it all. Whatever. Yeah. . Yeah. But to
[00:27:05] cathy: take those moments for yourself and then to go to a place, I said, you know what? I've got this. I can go back in the world. It's almost like a church for a salon. Just go right. Do it for your body and your mind and your health and Right.
[00:27:16] cathy: And you guys. All the right things too as well. So I just, I love that. I didn't mean to go off on that, but
[00:27:22] Jennifer: I appreciate that. I love it. We love it too. Yeah. But I think that vibe is
[00:27:26] cathy: really good. And I think if people really understand that that's y'all's mission. . Just to make people feel that way and have fun and enjoy it, I think.
[00:27:33] cathy: I think that's what makes going to a salon fun. Y'all aren't the dentist and the doctor. It's
[00:27:38] Jennifer: a place to go to feel good. Exactly. Good . Yeah, exactly. Yes, . Yeah. We're definitely not the dentist. Yes.
[00:27:45] cathy: Now you guys also do other services, so you guys are doing, weddings. You do y'all? Yes. Travel.
[00:27:52] cathy: Events we can,
[00:27:53] Jennifer: Yes, we do it all. Depending on, what they're booking, if they're, if they wanna book in the salon or if they want us to come to them. We definitely have a salon team, that does weddings, like a bridal, we do that. We come, we go, we can go to the venues or, some people like to come into the salon, so it just depends on if they're, needing us to travel to them or if they're around and they'll come into us.
[00:28:13] Jennifer: But we definitely have the, Team that is the, the wedding team that goes out on location or the group that works together in the salon. We do all things here. So extensions, we do treatments from Brazilians to Keratins. We have been doing perms like crazy right now. That's a new thing. So is that back?
[00:28:33] Jennifer: The, it's back, but it's more, you're seeing a lot of your guys with the mullets and the perms and the , just that. Oh my gosh, I
[00:28:41] cathy: saw that post. Yeah. And I was like, is that really
[00:28:43] Jennifer: back in it's back? It's back. Yes. We have been doing so many, we do, all your creative coloring, we are big into color corrections because people, Go places themselves, and then we have to, come step in and take over.
[00:29:00] Jennifer: And we do have a great set of stylists that are very good. Some of us have been in the salon world for 20 plus years, and then we have our newer stylists that are, that are assisting and learning and growing with us and seeing how we do things.
[00:29:13] Jennifer: And yeah. So we do it all and we have, we. All facial waxing. We do that. We have not started into the body waxing yet, but right now we are doing the facial waxing and then we are about to have a, a few barbers come on board too. So that'll be fun to be able to Oh, that's nice. Yeah. To offer that, that little extra, especially for the working men that are in Denton that, wanna come into a nice salon.
[00:29:36] Jennifer: Maybe not just the barber, but can get everything that we're offering and get their. They're barber cuts over, or maybe they're barber shaves over just a, a basic haircut. So yeah, we're excited to have that too. You

[00:30:19] Crystal: And then even some of the sprayed tan beds and stuff like, you come out smelling like a rotten egg. Yes, I'm just gonna say it.
[00:30:27] Jennifer: Yes, . And again, that's something that has to be done, daily to, oh my gosh,
[00:30:31] Crystal: yes. And it's messy and. Yes. Sometimes it's not always evenly distributed.
[00:30:36] Crystal: , which is why I love the airbrush spray tan. And I can see that you guys, it's a hundred percent organic and vegan, which I think is huge. Yes. Again, it takes you back to that healthy way of having the look that you want without damaging your skin, making it dry out, making it look orange or

[00:31:01] Jennifer: Actually we do have the, where you can, wash within what the two hours or the four hours of the six hours. You've got that. Oh, nice. Okay. And then the, the add-ons of just like the extra bronzing or the extra, the shin, what am I trying to say?
[00:31:16] Jennifer: Like the shinier, you can throw that in there. That kind of gives you that glissening look. That glow, yeah. Yeah. So there, there are those additives you can add on.

We serve teas after you've had your, either a cryo service or a massage, we do have, The organic, all natural loose leaf teas that we actually sell in the salon we serve too. So you can have a nice tea for a refreshing, after you've had your service.
[00:32:14] Jennifer: It just awakens the pallet and gives you a little something different when we have those for sell. And just again, having the small boutique area that people can, you know that again, those last. As you're running out and you have that birthday party or that Christmas gift you still needed, we have our gift cards that are, big right now.

[00:34:03] cathy: Hey Jennifer. So I got a question for you. So we're talking to the general public when it comes to salons and beauty care and all this stuff. Is there any advice, now we're worldwide, but is there any advice that you would give to our listeners?
[00:34:20] cathy: About, selecting a hairstylist, we know you guys are great, but what advice would you give the world, if, when it comes to hair styling and beauty, and if you could tell anybody anything. Oh gosh. I know I put you on the spot.
[00:34:35] Jennifer: One of my biggest things, whenever a new client comes in, And or just say that you have a client that you are changing maybe just the style or the cut or the color.
[00:34:47] Jennifer: I'm real big on always for the stylist and for the client to know what you like, know what you want, and know what you don't want. So pictures of what you like and pictures of what you don't like. That's huge. That communication in between the stylist and the. client, it's always usually a miscommunication of when something does go wrong.
[00:35:09] Jennifer: So I always highly suggest that communication being open because just because a client says one thing or a stylist says one thing, doesn't mean that vice versa, the client or the stylist. Means what they're saying or I have so many people that I'm ready for three inches off and I'll show, okay, this is three inches, you're ready.
[00:35:26] Jennifer: Oh wait, no, not that much. Oh. Because nobody really knows what they're talking about. And a inch can make a huge difference of a haircut looking like just cleaned up or a whole different style. , I'm real big on, the communication barrier between the client and the stylist.
[00:35:41] Jennifer: So again, if you have your pictures and you can show what you want and what you don't want, I think that's huge in our industry. And I try to teach that to all my stylists, and especially like my upcoming stylist, my newer stylist, like really communicate and educate your clients because, We are the ones that know, like you're the ones we are the boss of the job, so you know.
[00:36:01] Jennifer: , that communication barrier can always. Always make or break a, break a cut or a, a color. So I'm real big on just, you may know what you want and you may be saying what you want, but those words may mean something else to a stylist because we've gone to school and verbiage is very important in our world.
[00:36:20] Jennifer: I'm real big on, show me what you like and show me what you don't like. Show me what you want, show me what you don't want. Because that is huge because again, that, that communication can, and it can be the slightest bit of communication that, that gets, slipped or that, oh, I thought you meant this.
[00:36:37] Jennifer: I did, but. I didn't know it was gonna be that short or I did, but I didn't know it was gonna be that dark. So again, oh, did communication,
[00:36:45] cathy: did I say an itch? Yes. Did I say, wait, did I say an inch or did I say I have an itch?
[00:36:52] Jennifer: Yes, exactly. See, . Exactly. So yes, I, that's my takeaway that I've learned over the years, is that communication barrier that is, between the stylist and the clients and knowing what you want and what you don't want is
[00:37:09] cathy: huge.
[00:37:09] cathy: And I think any hairstylist or any salon out there , I would definitely, I really recommend, looking at Salon NV Denton, I think the model and the things that you guys have going on, it really puts you guys as a leader in your industry and I'm very proud to be working with you.

[00:38:00] Jennifer: Within the salon too, I, we definitely like to take care of each other in the salon as, as well. There's 20 on staff and being able to offer the stylists that have, that have hard days, go get a massage, get a, take care of yourself, like it's here for you.
[00:38:13] Jennifer: We take care of our stylists, meaning, , we'll give them discounts and stuff since they're working in the salon with us and everybody's trading. If you do this for me, I'll do this for you. So that, but it's definitely, we live in a crazy world and we've gotta take care of ourselves and if a, we can give back a little bit to start a little bit of a change in this world, we are gonna try to do it.
[00:38:31] Jennifer: Aw, I love
[00:38:32] Crystal: that. Yeah. I do have a question , extensions like, , I would love to just have a little bit of education on extensions. Okay. And put that out into the world because I think that for someone who doesn't understand the world of extensions, but maybe they have a formal or, whatever the case may be, or maybe they're just like tired of their long hair and it doesn't grow well.
[00:38:54] Crystal: Extensions, like what is your recommendation or tip or something that you would go out.
[00:39:00] Jennifer: Yeah, so you can do extensions for length, for body, for fullness, to help you hold curl. It can be customized for each client. So there's a few different kinds that you can put in. It depends on how thick, how full, how long you're wanting them.
[00:39:15] Jennifer: It depends on the hair that we're working on, which one we might would advise the client to go towards. There's a few different ways to do that. But again, you can pop in, I have a handful of. That are, mid forties to mid sixties that wear just a few poppin extensions that are the tape ends.
[00:39:34] Jennifer: And we just pop a few in. That kind of just gives 'em that little body, it gives the fullness around the face without having to wear a full set of heavy. Heavy extensions. Then we have the girls, the younger girls that maybe just love that long thick mermaid looking, full head of hair that they would never get themselves.
[00:39:53] Jennifer: And those are more your weves and your sew in. We have a variety of,, options that you can choose from. It really comes down to customizing and everything is so customized in our salon. We really, truly look at each individual. Client and really, prepare what they're needing for each client because again,
[00:40:11] Jennifer: everybody's so different. Everybody's hair is different, everybody's body's different. Everybody's, scalp is different. So everybody takes everything differently. So again, we're gonna customize everything and really, hone in on what each client wants and what each client needs. Just because, Sally can wear these, that doesn't mean that.
[00:40:28] Jennifer: Mary can wear them, exactly. We definitely, but we want everybody to have what they all want and what works best for them. And, price-wise, we definitely, we, that all comes into play too. So again , you have options of, we can get you what you want on what you have to work with.
[00:40:42] Crystal: I love that you said that you customize and you actually have a consultation on that. Yes. Cause I am like the perfect person I would think to put in this scenario. I have super fine hair. It's been a challenge and a struggle with me since I've been little. My sister, she's the beautiful, thick hair, gorgeous, and.
[00:41:00] Crystal: doesn't need to do anything to hers, but I've always wanted extensions and I've always been very scared to have them, whether they're too heavy or they're gonna pull on my hair, my scalp, and then the pop-ins, can I even manage to put those in on my own? So I love that, sitting down and having a consultation and then you guys would customize something that would work for me.
[00:41:18] Crystal: Yes. And then be honest about Hey, this is the reality of the circumstances and situations. Other salons that I have tried, I just never. Confident to move forward because I was never helped in that arena. And I love that you are talking about how, no, let's just sit down, let's look at your head of hair.
[00:41:35] Crystal: What
[00:41:36] Jennifer: we can do. What can we do? Yep. What can we do for you? Because again, everybody is so different and everybody's, pricing looks different and, everybody's hair, there's certain people that their hair wouldn't even be able to handle certain. Certain products. So we definitely look to each individual and really customize for each individual instead of, we have this one type of everything that we do for everyone and everybody comes out looking the exact same and this is what we do.
[00:42:03] Jennifer: Like it is definitely, Made for each client, each set of, hair that we're working on, we really specifically look into that. So whether it's the product or the extension or the color or, we, it just becomes super customized because again, everybody is so different.
[00:42:20] Jennifer: Everybody can handle things differently. And if you're a work, a workout queen that does, two a day workouts, we may look at something different than somebody that's. , that never does any type of without, it's like she's different. You just have to look at all those little things.
[00:42:33] Jennifer: And I just, for instance, I just had a client that was going through, a little, surgery. She was doing like a. She was getting her face done and I said, for a minute, let's take out your extensions, because laying down and healing, you're going to find that, your hair can definitely get matted and it probably won't love laying down for that.
[00:42:52] Jennifer: Long period of time and you know you're not gonna feel like even messing with the extensions because extensions are something you have to take care of. The maintenance on them daily is something you have to actually do daily. And she had text me afterwards and she was like, I'm so glad you advised me to keep those out for this time being.
[00:43:09] Jennifer: And I was like, good, because that is so important because. , then that just becomes a wrecker. You might be losing hair because you've gotten it in such a mess or a, a ball of, matted hair because you've been laying for two weeks straight. Again, it's just really taking care of the client.
[00:43:25] Jennifer: It's not about, the money will come that comes, but when you're doing the right thing and you're taking care of the people, wholeheartedly, it shows and it makes a difference on, the trust of the client and the stylist and the salon. And that's,
[00:43:38] Crystal: And that comes down to, truly being a part of the Salon NV family.
[00:43:43] Crystal: You are treating all of your clients as family. You guys are so amazing. I cannot wait to come out there, take

Don't lose sight of why you gotten the business Right and right. It shows because you have a ton of stylists that. I know that I've seen have been with you for years.
[00:44:24] cathy: Yeah. . And I love that. So it, that usually tells me, that's a good leader in a business. Oh. I think because you're in there with them, I feel like, you're listening. They've obviously are staying with you for a while, . It's like Salon NV is one big family.
[00:44:41] cathy: Yes. And they wanna bring you into, And like I said, like you've got lots of stylists and I know you'll have new stylists, but they all have their specialty. I've seen the pictures, the personalities, everybody, and I know you're just getting more and growing. And I just love it.
[00:44:56] cathy: And I think all that starts at the top. And I just wanna commend you. Jennifer, as being an owner and a stylist. Thank you. And having a team that really does take care of everybody. Yes. All the other stuff, like you said, is coming into the salon and getting all this awesome, I don't know, feel good stuff and I love that.
[00:45:14] cathy: But from a business perspective, I think, really having a good team is important. So if they don't get you and they do get someone from your team, we know they're gonna be taken care of because of the Salon NV philosophy. And that's what, that's what I
[00:45:29] Jennifer: love. That, and that's our goal is to, that whoever takes care of you, you're getting, all the services at a high, high end.
[00:45:39] Jennifer: Quality that you're being taken care of, you're being heard, you're being listened to, that you know everybody is doing their best to perform everything that they can at the highest levels. So that is definitely our goal. All while, like you said, I mean our clients are our family as well. We're family listening to them.
[00:45:56] cathy: They're the ones telling you, I need a wand for my skin. I don't want go buy blue. Exactly. Exactly. . When you solve a customer's problem, that puts you in the top of the line if the customers are telling you and your staff is talking to you, and your teams are talking to you and you're really a good listener, that's what brings everything in.
[00:46:18] cathy: And then that's why I think your new salon really just, it just pops, you can feel it just, even just looking at the pictures, awesome. Thank you.
